Appraisal comes never too late
The Anatomische Gesellschaft has selected the publication of Julien Guy (https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/pdf/S2211-1247(22)01837-X.pdf) as the Quarterly Publication Award 04/2023. In this paper, we were able to show that GABAergic neurons in mouse barrel cortex do code sensory features like whisker displacement direction with cell type-specific precision. Thus, this study was not only a tour-de-force in methods but worth the effort since it provided evidence that VIP neurons do not provide “sole” signals related to reward or punishment but are also capable to directly contribute to cortical sensory representations.
